July 2009

I’ve heard friends describe it as a monkey running around, a guinea pig on a wheel, and a fish flopping around. I think it feels like a lizard running across the inside of my lower abdomen. There’s no zoo moving around in my belly, just an active little girl who wants to participate in the conversation!

I like to imagine that she’s listening to something like ABBA or KC and the Sunshine Band, dancing around and singing karaoke. Hey, it’s a nicer image than a lizard! Madeline, the dancing queen…

What’s really exciting is that Dan has been able to feel her moving a couple of times now. He’s going to be such a great daddy!

Bookish and nerdy? Perhaps a little. But, how excited was I when I found these awesome onesies?! They’re never too young to give them an appreciation for great literature.

I tried to edit these as well as I could so you could see her face instead of all the boring stuff around her. She had just taken her fingers out of her mouth. 🙂

67% of you were right. We are having a baby girl. Her name will be revealed for all to see a little later, but right now we are just basking in the excitement of knowing that our little family will be welcoming its very own princess.

We are really looking forward to meeting her!

We had a baby shower for my friend Jakki today. She’s expecting a baby girl in September, and we are so excited to be welcoming little Aubrey into the world.

Here’s a fun picture of Jakki, Sheryl, and me. Jakki is 32 weeks and I’m 20 weeks. Oh, and the wind decided to play beauty shop with our hair. 🙂

A week from today, we will have the answer to the big question – is BabyHead a prince or a princess? We still want to know what you think, so be sure to vote before next Tuesday! Thanks!

I’ve been wondering for a couple of weeks now whether every little gurgle or bubble I felt was the baby moving. Yesterday, when I was lying on the couch reading, I felt something very different. I’ve never been a mommy before, so I’m no expert, but if baby movement feels something like a lizard doing The Worm* through your lower abdomen, then we definitely have a little mover in there! Yay!!

*There. I made a tribute to the late Michael Jackson. Happy?

If you’ve known me for a while, you know that my dreams tend to be somewhat colorful. Over the past few weeks, WOW! I keep reading about these nightmares I should be having, and I guess maybe my dreams would be nightmares for some people, but I just find them amusing.

First, there were the dreams in which I was being kidnapped by terrorists – first ninjas, then something else, and finally a white van, drink the Kool-Aid cult.

Then, there was the dream in which Dan sent me to the fabric store to buy some Tartan plaid so that he could make himself some kilts.

Last night”s dream needs a little background information. I have always wanted a pet chicken. But, it can’t just be any old chicken. I want a Polish hen, the kind of fancy show chicken with feathers that look like fur and big plumes on top of their heads.  —  I dreamed I was one of those.

I’m sure there will be more memorable dreams between now and December.  As long as they don’t get scary, I’m kind of looking forward to it!

Opie wants me to pass along the message that s/he wants everyone to have a safe and happy 4th of July!

We are thankful to God that we live in a country in which we can worship Him freely, and where we are free to be safe and to express ourselves.

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.”  Psalm 33:12
